Leonard Greene

Leonard Greene died June 7, 2020.

He was 73.

Born in Newark, he lived in Kearny and the past 31 years in Lincoln Park.

Private arrangements were by the the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, Kearny.

Lenny was a police officer in Kearny for many years. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was the beloved husband of Cynthia (Forte). Loving father of Jessica Lopez (Jared), he is also survived by his brothers Gerry and Joey Greene and their families, his grandson Chase, his mother-in-law Eileen Forte, sister-in-law Joni Lewin and his niece Nina.

Marion (Valenti) DeLuca

Marion (Valenti) DeLuca of New Brunswick, formerly of Kearny, died Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at Alcoeur Gardens for Alzheimer’s Care in Brick Township.

She was 89.

Born in Orange to the late Phillip Valenti Sr. and Mary F. (Dunton) Valenti, she was raised in Newark and lived in Kearny for over 60 years. She came to North Brunswick in 2016. Mrs. DeLuca was a school crossing guard in Kearny for 30 years before retiring in 2007. Prior to that, she worked at Two Guys Grocery in Kearny.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church in North Brunswick and the church’s Columbiettes Council No. 11378.

Her husband Joseph G. DeLuca Sr. died in 1997.  She was also predeceased by her son Timothy DeLuca; her brother Phillip Valenti Jr.; her step-mother Helen “Jeribee” Valenti; and her stepfather Phillip Moore.

Surviving are two sons — Joseph G. DeLuca Jr. and his wife Joanne of North Brunswick and Brian DeLuca Sr. and his wife Eileen of Brick Township; her sister-in-law Kathryn Tasco of Toms River; three grandchildren — Brian DeLuca Jr. of Reno, Nevada, Toni DeLuca of Pleasant Hill, California, and Nicholas DeLuca of Brick Township; her niece Susan Aquino and her husband Sam of Toms River; and her nephew Mark Valenti and his wife Joanne of Lebanon.

Private funeral services with burial in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia were under the direction of Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick.

Charles A. Moore

Charles A. Moore, 70, of River Edge, died Monday, June 8, 2020.

He was the beloved husband of Valerie (nee Bonizzi) and devoted father to Christine Ziomek and her husband Eric. He was a loving grandfather to grandson Zachary Ziomek, dear brother of Ernest W. Moore and his wife Maureen (nee Galway) Moore and Barbara Moore Mace and her husband Leith Mace. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in Kearny, he lived there until moving to River Edge 42 years ago. He graduated Kearny High School and was a member of the varsity basketball team for four years and was named MBP in 1967.

After 40 years of service, he retired from the U.S. Postal Service, Rutherford, as a letter carrier in 2007.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a medic at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Agnes C. MacKinnon

Agnes C. MacKinnon (nee Clunie), a lifelong Kearny resident, died June 8, 2020.

She was 92.

Private arrangements were by the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home and the burial is at Arlington Cemetery, both in Kearny.

Agnes was a teacher’s aide for special education students for many years in Kearny, retiring at the age of 80.

Wife of the late John MacKinnon to whom she was married for 45 years, she was the beloved mother of Cheryl Melesky (John Davie), Nancee Rodriguez and the late Lynda MacKinnon. She was the sister of Violet O’Halloran and the loving “Grams” to her grandchildren Garry (Rachel), Rory (Rebecca) and Sean (Meghan)  along with her great-grandchildren Justin, Ian, Caleb, Lindsay and Connor.

Czeslawa (Charlotte) Mroz

Czeslawa (Charlotte) Mroz of North Arlington died at Clara Mass Medical Center, Belleville, Wednesday, June 10, 2020.

She was 85.

Private funeral services will be conducted from the Mulligan Funeral Home, 331 Cleveland Ave., Harrison. Her interment will take place in Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

Born in Tatary, Poland, Czeslawa lived in North Arlington for 25 years and prior to that, she lived in Kearny for 26 years. She worked for the cleaning services of Prudential, Newark, for many years, until she retired in 2000.

She was a parishioner and member of the Rosary Alter Society of Our Lady of Czestochowa, Harrison, and was also a member of Pulaski Club, Harrison.

Predeceased by her husband, Franciszek, Czeslawa is survived by her loving children, Janina Lewczuk and husband Feliks, Matthew and wife Halina, Tadeusz (Ted) and wife Terrilin and Czeslawa O’Neil; 14 cherished grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Alexandra Marciniak and many nieces.

Dolores Dowe

Dolores (Dee) Dowe nee O‘Brien of Essex, Connecticut, formerly Harrison, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2020.

With a big heart, quick wit, love of family and passion for life, Dolores immediately connected with everyone she met, making each feel special. Born and raised in Harrison, and a graduate of Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Dee taught school for many years, fondly remembered and loved by generations of students.

She retired as Principal of Lincoln Elementary School in Harrison in September 1993.  During this time, Dolores was appointed by the New Jersey Courts to be on the Harrison Juvenile Conference Committee. Her community involvement in Harrison also included being a member of the Board of Education and Board of Health; County Committeewoman for Hudson County representing the Second Ward, Second District; she was active in Holy Cross Church; and a passionate fund raiser for the Cancer League.

Predeceased by her parents, James and Dorothy (Graves) O’Brien, sister Joan DeLaura and her daughter Dorothy (Dee Dee) Andrews Kleckner, she is survived by her brother James (Margaret) O’Brien and family; son Michael (Kathy), daughters Michele Bykerk (Lee) and Allison Dowe Johnson (Christian); grandchildren Erin Joyce, Kara Rodjom, Michael Dowe, Melissa Backus, Alan and Jason Andrews, Neil, Brett and Chad Bykerk, Tyler and Monique Johnson; great-grandchildren Cecilia, Conall, Theodore and Francis Joyce, Charles and Claire Rodjom, Vincent Dowe; Brayden and Natalie Backus; Sarah and Alana Andrews; and Ava Andrews.
