While Kearny is known for being a heavily Democratic stronghold, it appears it wasn’t in this recent election — at least for Gov. Philip D. Murphy.

Challenger Jack Ciatarelli won 12 districts Tuesday, including a good portion of the Third Ward. He also won a district in the First Ward, which became a strong D well before the northern part of town.

Ciatarelli also win a few districts in Bayonne and Secaucus.

In 2017, Murphy won every election district in Kearny, Bayonne and Secaucus.
