HCPO & Kearny PD investigating 5-car Newark-Jersey City Tpk. crash

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office’s Regional Collision Investigative Unit is investigating a 5-vehicle crash that occurred Nov. 1 in Kearny, Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. That day, shortly before 10 p.m., the Kearny Police Department responded to the area of 969 Newark-Jersey City Turnpike on a report of a motor-vehicle collision. Upon arrival, responding officers found multiple vehicles were involved in the collision with one driver sustaining serious injuries.

During the preliminary investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Kearny Police Department, it was discovered the vehicles involved in the incident were a 2010 Acura, a 2016 BMW 435i, a 2009 Honda CRV, a 2014 Audi A4 and a 2020 Chevrolet Suburban.

There were a total of nine people with various injuries who were involved in the collision. All of the individuals were treated at the scene and several were transported by Emergency Medical Services to multiple area hospitals where they were treated.

The 21-year-old driver of the BMW, a man, suffered serious head trauma and was transported to University Hospital in Newark where he is currently in stable condition.

The Kearny PD is assisting the collision unit with the investigation.

No arrests have yet been made.
