Joseph Gaglio

Joseph Gaglio, 86 died on Saturday, Nov. 24, in the Belgrove Post Acute Care Center in Kearny.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 9:30 a.m. A funeral mass will be offered in St. Stephen’s Church, Kearny at 10:30 a.m. Cremation will be private. Joseph was born in Kearny and was a lifelong resident. He worked in the Shade Tree Department for the Town of Kearny for 25 years. Joe served in the 1st Calvary of the U.S. Army from 1944 until 1946. He was the past commander of V.F.W. Post 1302, Kearny as well as the past state commander of the V.F.W. He was a member of the American Legion Post 99, Kearny as well as a member of the 1st Calvary Division Association and Marconi Fraternal Association.

Joe loved spending his summers at Eagle Lake in Pennsylvania.

Mr. Gaglio is survived by his niece Marie Miller and her husband Bob and their children Matthew, John and Joey and his nephew Tom Scorsome and his wife Debbie and their children; sisters Yolanda Girdwood and Santina Eccles and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings Gerado, Mary, Fay and Lee and his companion of 30 years Genevieve (Elsie) Pamper. Special thanks to Caroline and Jessie.

Joan Greb

Joan Greb (Leivonen), 78, died on Nov. 16, in the Clara Maas Medical Center, Belleville.

Greb was born and raised in Newark and has lived in Kearny since 1972.

She was employed as a clerk for Prudential in Newark for 38 years retiring in 1990. Joan was also a committee member for Cub Scouts Pack 305 from St. Stephen’s Church.

She is survived by her children Karen Greb, Donna Haynes (Drew), Peter Greb, (Lynn); brother William Leivonen, grandchildren Heather Stone (Jamey), Garrett Haynes, William Greb and great grandchildren James and Abigail Stone. She was predeceased by her grandson Chad Haynes.

James R. Mueller

James R. Mueller entered into eternal life Nov. 23. He was 70. Born in Newark, he was a lifelong North Arlington resident.

Arrangements were by Armitage and Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 10 a.m. in The First Presbyterian Church, North Arlington. Jim is survived by his wife Jackie (nee Clark), his mother Virginia (nee Simm), his sons and their wives Jason T. and Edie, Christopher B. and Lisa and James E. and Jane Mueller; brother of Rod and George Mueller he is also survived by his grandchildren Patrick, Joshua, Sarah, C.J., Jessica, Emily and Claire and his great grandson Landon George.

Jim was a U.S. Airforce Vet, a draftsman and a retired member of Local 68. He was active in the Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to the M.S. Society.

Anne Sharples

Anne Sharples (nee Qualtier) died on Nov. 20 in Clara Maass hospital. She was 82. Born in Newark, she lived in Kearny before moving to North Arlington 55 years ago.

Mary Starzecki

Miss Mary Starzecki, formerly of Kearny, died on Sunday, Nov. 25. She was 88.

A graveside service will be held in Arlington Cemetery, Kearny on Thursday, Nov. 29, at 11 a.m.

Mary had worked in Western Electric in So. Kearny as an assembly worker for 30 years until retiring.

Surviving are her friends, Patricia Allen and Ann Wallace.
