KEARNY —
The Elmwood Park man sought in connection with a May 6 multi-vehicle fatal
accident in South Kearny was arrested by Kearny officers at his home last week,
police reported.

Kearny Police Chief John Dowie said the suspect, George Smith, 38, was taken into custody without incident at 7:30 p.m., Monday, June 6, by Officers Peter Jahera, David Rakowski and Paul Bershefski, who had staked out his home.
A warrant had been issued for his arrest after a KPD investigation of his vehicle and receipt of toxicology reports from the State Police.
Police said Smith had been driving his SUV on Rts. 1 & 9 at Hackensack Ave. when he sideswiped another vehicle and then hit two more, including a Ford Bronco that he struck head-on after crossing into oncoming traffic. The Bronco driver, Isaac Miller, 40, of Jersey City, was killed.
