Tune up for karaoke next week at W.H.A.T.

The West Hudson Arts and Theater Co. (W.H.A.T.) will hold its first-ever Broadway Karaoke Open Mic Night Fundraiser, Friday, May 29, at 7:30 p.m.at its theater in residence at the First Lutheran Church, 65 Oakwood Ave., Kearny.

“We love engaging the community with what we do, and since we are a performing arts organization, karaoke with a Broadway theme seemed like a perfect fit for a fundraiser,” said W.H.A.T.’s newly named vice president, Noelle Haefner.

W.H.A.T. hopes the event will help underwrite the cost of productions as it readies its sixth season this fall. “We need to remind the community that we rely upon the generous support of local residents and businesses alike to sustain both our stage productions and well as our W.H.A.T. Education Department programs,” Haefner noted.

With Broadway now encompassing everything from classic musicals like “Cabaret” and “A Chorus Line” to the sounds of Motown and songs by Carole King (“Beautiful”) to the music of Green Day in “American Idiot,” there is something for everyone to enjoy. So tone up those vocal chords and loosen those lips: It’s time to raise some money for your community theater!

Suggested donation is $15 per person, $10 for seniors and students. Additional donations are welcome. Tickets are available online at www.whatco.org or by calling 201- 467-8624.
