Stabbing reported at Kearny Walmart: King

There’s been a stabbing this morning at the Kearny Walmart, Kearny Police Chief George King told The Observer.

King says he and the department are sorting the situation currently, but that one call to police reported a shooting. There was no shooting, King said.

Capt. Timothy Wagner, the KPD’s public information officer, says at 10:27 a.m. today, Kearny police received a 911 call reporting an assault at the Walmart store at 150 Harrison Ave. in Kearny. Officers located a man inside the store who sustained a deep laceration to the back of his head. Preliminary information indicates that the victim was involved in an argument with another adult man who then struck the victim in the head with a machete.

The suspect fled the store before police arrived.

While the victim’s condition is not immediately known, King says it does not appear his injuries are life-threatening.
