Tree Lighting Festival set for Dec. 2

The KUEZ Tree Lighting Festival returns as an in-person event this year Thursday, Dec. 2, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

While some modifications have been made to the traditional festival, the event will be highlighted by a holiday concert on the steps of Town Hall.

Also, the Kearny High School Ensemble, singers from the Kearny High School K-Birds, the Next Step School of Dance, the Hudson Arts and Science Charter School Chorus, members of the Columcille United Gaelic Pipe Band and carolers from the West Hudson Arts & Theatre Company will perform.

At 6:30 p.m., Santa arrives to help Mayor Alberto G. Santos light the tree.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will stick around for photos with children (12 and younger) until 8:30 p.m. This year, he’s specially decked out his sleigh so kids will be able to safely visit and take photos.

While this year’s event will not include the traditional activity booths, there will be special holiday-themed photo op and selfie stations in the park, along with roving entertainment for visitors until 8:30 p.m.

A special component of this year’s event will be members of the Kearny Fire Department being on hand to collect new, unwrapped gifts for the Kearny Holiday Giving Tree.

Please note: Kearny Avenue will be closed between Liberty Street and Quincy Avenue throughout the event, which goes off rain or shine.

Sponsored by the Kearny Urban Enterprise Zone (KUEZ) and Mayor Alberto G. Santos and the Kearny Town Council.
