NA eighth-grader wins Knights’ state spelling bee

There are good spellers — and then there’s Veronica Lopes. The Queen of Peace Knights of Columbus Council 3428 congratulated Lopes recently, as she was the New Jersey State Knights of Columbus 2022 Spelling Bee Champion. Veronica, an eighth-grader at Queen of Peace Grammar School, won the council’s bee, advanced to the regional bee finals and qualified for the state bee, where she bested 11 other finalists to capture the crown. In the fall, she will attend St. Vincent’s High School in Newark. Lopes is seen here holding her NJ K of C award with Deputy Grand Knight and Council Program Director Larry Crawford.
