Former North Arlington mayor dies aged 71

The man who served as North Arlington’s Democratic mayor in the early 2000s until 2006 has died.

Russ Pitman died Wednesday, May 11, 2022.

He was 71.

Russ was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and was a graduate of Paramus Catholic High School in Paramus and Millersville State University in Pennsylvania. North Arlington was his home for the last 45 years.

Russ had a true passion for outdoor activities such as jogging and biking and many knew him from jogging along Ridge Road in North Arlington.

The late mayor’s funeral will be at the Parow Funeral Home, North Arlington, Monday, May 16 at 10:15 a.m., with a Mass at Queen of Peace that same day at 11:15 a.m. Visitation is Sunday, May 15, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pitman is North Arlington’s second former mayor to die within a year. Len Kaiser lost his life in September 2021.
