Dewar W. ‘Butch’ Boyd

Dewar W. “Butch” Boyd, of Harrison, died at home April 22.

He was 69.

Visiting was at the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. Mass was celebrated at Holy Cross Church, Harrison. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

Butch was the brother of Margaret Masino (Frank), Janet “Toots” MacDonald (the late Paul), Lynn Scocco (Tony) and the late Elizabeth Haines (Jack), William Boyd, Jean Gray (Richard), Kathleen McGuire (Tom), Michael Boyd and Tiny Gray (Ronald).

He was also the beloved uncle of JJ, Hailey, Landon, Quinn along with many more loving nieces and nephews and their families.

Salvatore P. Curcio

Salvatore P. Curcio, 43, died Wednesday, April 26, at Clara Maass Medical Center, Belleville.

The funeral will be from the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, on Wednesday, May 3, at 8:30 a.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Stephen’s Church, Kearny, at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 2, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Condolences and memories may be shared at thiele-reid.com.

Sal was born in Belleville and had lived in Kearny for the last 40 years.

He wrestled for Kearny High School in the heavyweight division before graduating in 1993.

Mr. Curcio was an assembler for Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and New Jersey for the last 23 years.

He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 99, and a National Associate member of the Marine Corps League.

Sal is survived by his parents James and Jeanette (nee Kania) Curcio and was the friend of Dorothy Streckfuss.

Joseph Cassera

Joseph Cassera, 90, died Saturday, April 22, at home in Pt. Pleasant Beach.

The funeral service took place at the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, Kearny, on Thursday, April 27. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

Mr. Cassera was born and raised in Kearny and lived there over 60 years before moving to Pt. Pleasant Beach in 1995. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1945 until 1946. Joseph was a firefighter for the town of Kearny from 1950 until he retired as a captain in 1985.

He is survived by his daughter, Marie Cassera and her husband Peter DiGiore; and one son, Joseph Cassera Jr. He was the grandfather of Lorenzo Natoli and Elliot and Eric Nash. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren.

Joseph was predeceased by his wife Jacqueline (nee Brunelle) Cassera in 1998 and his daughter Michele Nash in 1991.
