Paul McKenna

Paul McKenna was born on the family farm in County Monaghan, Ireland, 84 years ago.

He died peacefully in his home on June 11, 2020.

Paul worked as a carpenter with Essex County Carpenter’s Local 1342 for over 50 years and worked in his own business  “Homac” and retired as a master carpenter from Prudential Life Insurance Co., Newark.

Paul was predeceased by his parents James and Kathleen (McCann); brother Francis (Rita); sister Mary (Frank Meehan); sister-in-law Patricia Higgins (John Gilvey) and his baby boy born in March 1978.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Maureen (Higgins) and their three children: Cristin and husband Douglas and their two children Christianna and Teresa;  John Paul; Brian and wife Melissa (Clare) and their four children, Lainey, Jack, Lorelei and Evie Joy.

Because of current restrictions, only the immediate family could bid him farewell.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Stephen’s Church in Kearny at a later date and interment of ashes will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Haverstraw, New York.

A celebration of Paul’s life will also take place at a later date when conditions allow. The funeral home’s website will be updated to reflect the time and date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Stephen’s Church, 141 Washington Ave., Kearny, N.J. 07032.

 

Joseph Abello Jr.

Joseph Abello Jr. died at home July 8, 2020.

He was 77.

Born in Jersey City, Joe lived most of his life in Kearny.

Private arrangements were by the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home in Kearny.

Joe was a letter carrier in Kearny for many years and after retirement from the Post Office, he worked as a driver for HB Pharmacy, North Arlington.

He loved bowling and a great game of cards.

He was the loving son of the late Joseph Abello Sr. and Marie (nee Mattaliano). Beloved husband of Violet (nee Pica), he was the cherished father of Joseph Abello III, Paul Abello (his wife Lucia) and Vincent Abello. He was the brother of the late Anthony Abello and brother-in-law of the late Jean Abello. Also surviving are his grandchildren Alyssa Marie and Joseph Michael along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

 

Ann M. Sherry

Ann M. Sherry, “Susan,” died July 6, 2020 at home.

She was 82.

Born in Kearny, she moved to Neptune 18 years ago.

Private family arrangements were by the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, Kearny. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

Susy was a devoted and beloved employee of Pathways to Independence.

The daughter of the late James and Margaret Marshall, she was the former wife to the late Dennis Sherry.

Surviving her are her son and daughter Timothy P. Sherry and Coleen M. Rossi (Dean). Sister of Marie Yakabofski and Butch Marshall, she is also survived by her grandchildren Ryan Sherry (Cathi), Gianna Rossi and Nina Rossi along with her great-grandson Griffin.
