LETTER — Coach Galka says thanks for support during championship run

To the Editor:

On behalf of myself, my assistant coach Scott Millar and the Kearny High School boys’ varsity soccer team, I would like to send out a heartfelt thank you to the very many who supported us on our very exciting State Championship run these past few weeks.

I would have to believe we have the largest support in not only NJ but the United States. The Kearny Army which it is known in some circles came out in the thousands at Kean University last Saturday, not to mention the many who watched it online.

I knew it was coming, but I have to say I was surprised and taken back when they had to open the bleachers on the other side of the stadium to accommodate our fans. I believe that is a first at the finals at Kean.

It has always been a joy to play and coach soccer, but to be able to play in front of a knowledgeable, passionate crowd is something very difficult to explain. A crowd made up of your family, friends, Kearny students and faculty, colleagues, teachers (active and retired), former teammates, former coaches, current Kearny residents and the many former Kearny residents who still follow the team.

We had an excellent group of players this year who were more than deserving of being State Champions. They demonstrated those great traits you need to succeed — hard work, grit, determination, discipline and plenty of talent. I know I can speak for them by saying thank you for your support not just two Saturdays ago, but always.

Your well wishes and congratulations are much appreciated!

Happy holidays and God bless you.
