No gunman on Kearny Avenue, contrary to social media reports

Reports of a man with a gun on Kearny Avenue around 6 p.m. today were unfounded, KPD Det. Sgt. Michael Gontarczuk told The Observer. Instead, the police activity one might have seen on the Avenue near Bergen Avenue involved a person involved in a mental-health crisis who possessed a cell phone in his hand, not a handgun. No one was injured in any way, shape or form.
