Mary Martin

Mrs. Mary Martin (nee Kopacki), 95, died Feb. 20, 2020, in Piscataway.

Born and raised in Kearny, Mrs. Martin moved to Piscataway in 2010. She graduated from Kearny High School with the Class of 1942 and attended the Washington School for Secretaries in Newark before marrying her high school sweetheart, the late William Martin.

During World War II, Mrs. Martin worked for the Department of the Navy as a civilian. She later worked as a school secretary at Roosevelt School in Kearny, retiring in 1992.

Mrs. Martin enjoyed quilting and was a proud member of the Polish Women’s Club of Kearny, earning their Mother of the Year Award in 1977.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Martin and siblings, Helen McKinnon, Edmond Kopacki, Burt Kopacki and Wanda Preczewski.

Mrs. Martin is survived by her loving children, Elizabeth Novak (Alan), William B. Martin (Kathryn) and Steven J. Martin (Jeanne); grandchildren Suzanne Martin (Nathan Michlin), Diana Abdellah (Eric) and Christopher Novak; great-grandchildren Sophia and Samantha Abdellah and Noah Michlin and her brother, Stanley Kopacki (Barbara).

Visiting was at the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. (thiele-reid.com) A funeral service took place at the funeral home. Interment was in Arlington Cemetery in Kearny.

Margaret Austin

Margaret Austin died at home Feb. 24, 2020.

She was 87.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, she lived in Harrison before moving to Point Pleasant 21 years ago.

Private cremation is under the direction of the Armitage & Wiggins funeral home in Kearny. A memorial Mass was celebrated at St. Martha Roman Catholic Church, Point Pleasant.

Margaret was the wife of the late John Francis Austin. Mother of Barbara Ann Weir, Margaret Rose Austin and Janet Frances Campbell (Robert), she was also the sister-in-law of James McGhee. She leaves behind eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her niece Angela Quinn and nephew Edward Austin along with many other nieces and nephew and their families.

James R. Kashauer

James R. Kashauer of Kearny died at home Feb. 18, 2020.

He was 53.

Funeral arrangements were through the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, Kearny. Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Kearny. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

James worked for 15 years at Preserver Group and also worked in shipping/receiving for the Motor Club of America.

Son of the late Charles and Mary (nee Smith) Kashauer, he was the brother of Joan DelGuercio (the late Joseph) and the late Charles T. Kashauer. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Terri Kashauer.
