The North Central District of Elks Lodges hosts an annual soccer shootout for children aged 5 to 13, Sunday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m. at the Gunnell Oval, 520 Schuyler Ave., Kearny. Points are calculated by shots on goal and the winners head to a state competition. There is no cost and children should avoid wearing cleats. Kevin A. Canessa Jr. is the editor of and broadcaster at The Observer, a place where he has served on and off since 2006.
